The sound and feel really comes down to the way the pedal uses a 1940’s analog computing circuit to wave-shape the signal…  48V is simply what it takes to run the circuit with the necessary headroom to handle those calculations…  But, yes, in a round about way, that’s what gives this pedal a bigger sound and makes it very responsive to the player and his feel of the instrument.
